Want to get fit? Greg’s your man!

I thought for this post we’d highlight someone who puts in an immense amount of work both voluntarily at the YMCA, as well as privately, in order to develop the personal fitness and well being of others.

Greg’s been a volunteer trainer at the Tong Louie YMCA for many years and takes the ‘Gauntlet’ class on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm. I’ve been attending these classes for the last 9 months and it’s made an immense difference to my overall fitness, strength and in particular, my running.

The great thing about Greg’s classes are that they’re cool for all abilities, as long as you’re putting in your best effort then the man’s happy ….. but if he thinks you’re slacking, then beware, Greg’s on ‘ya like a nasty rash! We’ve all been there don’t worry, really he’s a big softy at heart. But please don’t tell him I said that, right?

Greg’s own Turbo Charged Bootcamp classes are held 5 times a week. For the early risers he does Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 5:45am to 6:45am (yes am) at the ‘Batting Cage’ in Sullivan Park. These classes are held outside and have only ever been cancelled once, when the temperature dropped below …. wait for it, -10c. Apparently that’s the cut off point when your hands get stuck to the floor whilst doing burpees. He’s all heart.

On Monday and Friday evenings he takes a class at the Cloverdale Traditional School. These are great as Greg takes full advantage of the old style gym they have there, with ropes and pull up bars. After a hard session all are welcome for a bit of social afterwards, as we go en-masse to the local pub for food, coffee and beer. Now we’re talking.

If you’ve never been to one of Greg’s classes then do yourself a favour and try them. Whether it’s cross training you’re looking for or something to tone up those flabby bits we all keep tucked away. Greg’s your man.

Finally I’ll leave you with one of Greg’s favourite ladies. If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, you soon will. Just come to a class dude.
